![]() When they’re circling around up there they take up precious space in a sky that is already congested. When we can, we like to avoid holding planes in the air. This continues and compounds through the day. Those leftover 20 planes from last hour are now taking slots from the planes that were supposed to come this hour. Once those delays start, it compounds the rest of the day. If the weather gets bad and now we can only land 40 per hour, even more planes inbound will be delayed. If LGA can theoretically land 64 planes per hour in perfect weather and no variables, and there are 84 inbound this hour, some of them will be delayed.
